Men & Teens | Anger

Have you felt out of control lately? Have you been snapping or raising your voice in frustration at strangers or those you love? Perhaps you have been surprised by the intensity of your feelings, and this is happening more and more frequently. Any recent legal trouble or custody/parenting concerns due to your anger? These signs may reveal that you have male anger.

Anger for men and teens is an easily and frequently observed emotion. It is one of the few emotions which are expected from men. Anger, however, covers over many other emotions which are hidden and often deep-rooted. As men and teens, we have learned to conceal our more vulnerable feelings. When we feel betrayed or hurt, disrespected or dismissed, we can default to expressions of anger. This would not be a problem if our reactions to anger did not bring new problems into our lives and anger itself did not slowly harm our bodies due to increased blood pressure and the frequent release of stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol.

64% of respondents said that the world is becoming an angrier place.
1 in 5 have ended connection with a friend or partner who could not manage their anger.
Nearly 80% of drivers exhibit anger, aggression, and road rage.

Anger is a universal emotion. We all experience it, and it has many positive uses, particularly for men and teens. As protectors, we can choose to correctly channel our anger into fighting injustices and taking care of others who may need help. Anger can motivate us to action. It can also serve as a barometer for other feelings we may have--to help us live more authentically. Anger inside of a interpersonal relationship, when expressed correctly, can deepen ties and prevent larger problems from arising.

Lithos Counseling & Consulting moves into a crowded space which mostly does not consider the spiritual ramifications of anger or the spiritual and biblical solutions offered. Our services are specialized to combine anger management techniques in addition to addressing the spiritual roots of rage and quick tempers. Offering action-oriented sessions in a comfortable space for males, we hope to promote healing and thriving so that we can be the best we can be for God, ourselves, our families, and our neighbors.
