Women & Teens | Anxiety

Do you experience dread or worry? Perhaps it is underneath everything that you are feeling or doing, but it is non-stop. Anxiety can take many forms, including panic attacks, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, PTSD, and OCD. It can feel like a simmer just beneath the surface or a debilitating and embarrassing experience which seems to come out of nowhere.

“Anxiety disorders affect nearly 1 in 5 adults in the United States. Women are more than twice as likely as men to get an anxiety disorder in their lifetime.[1]”

Many women and teens face external and internal pressure to be successful, attractive, put together, and in control—to carry many burdens in silence while wearing a smile. This is precisely why anxiety in women can be difficult to notice. Many women and teens suffer alone and rarely let anyone know that they do not “have it all together.” Biblically, we are called to be anxious for nothing (Philippians 4:6). This can appear impossible, however, and seem to be an additional burden of guilt to someone struggling with inner peace.

At Lithos Counseling and Consulting, we will take a person-specific and biblical approach to managing and reducing anxiety. We must first learn how to manage it, day-to-day. This step involves building skills and working to reduce the strong sense of powerlessness many people feel regarding anxiety. The next step will be to explore the root cause of anxiety and replace faulty beliefs with biblical principles, promises, and truths. Oftentimes, our circumstances and external stressors need to be addressed as well. Our approach to anxiety reduction is loving and patient, yet challenging.
